Siliguri, 13th July: After the end of the prolonged period of lockdown, a temporary market was set up at the Eastern Bypass roadside.
However, since traffic congestion and breaching of social distance was reported from the area, the police, on Sunday night, closed the market as a safety measure.
Agitated by the decision taken, the traders expressed outrage and staged a protest near Ashighar outpost on Monday.
It has been learned that all the traders were associated with other professions before the COVID-19 lockdown. With no source of income left, they had set up this market as an alternative to earn a living. However, the sudden closure of the market has left them in a helpless situation.
