Phansidewa, 16th July: Police from Phansidewa’s Bidhannagar Investigation Center arrested an individual and seized a tractor on charges of illegally transporting sand and gravel from a river.
During a campaign in the Bidhannagar area of Phansidewa block, the police intercepted a tractor loaded with sand and gravel. The tractor was seized as the driver failed to produce valid documents. The arrested individual has been identified as Pramod Lakra, a resident of Bijlimuni area in Bidhannagar.
According to police sources, the sand and gravel were intended for smuggling to Uttar Dinajpur district from the Chenga River. The police are investigating to determine if others are involved in the operation. The accused was presented in Siliguri Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
