Siliguri, 07th May: National Highway (NH) 10 has been closed for 72 hours starting Monday morning due to road renovation, causing inconvenience to travelers. Additionally, motorists are exploiting the situation, resulting in heightened frustration among tourists.
Reportedly, the closure of a portion of NH 10 has forced Kalimpong-Sikkim-bound tourists to endure hardships. To circumvent the closure, vehicles are redirected through Gorubathan-Algarah, with drivers seizing the opportunity to hike fares, nearly doubling the usual rates.
In this regard, the drivers lamented the prolonged journey times, with travel duration extending from the usual 4-5 hours to 8-9 hours, particularly at sight-seeing locations. They further anticipate fares to normalize once the NH reopens.
