Siliguri, 09th January: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police, earlier, issued a directory stating to ban e-rickshaws (toto) without permanent number plates on the city’s national highways from January 01. Since then, the toto drivers have been opposing the directive demanding the withdrawal of the order.
Today the Prograsive Toto Drivers Union staged a protest in front of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate. The toto drivers also submitted a memorandum on various issues.
The leaders of the organization said that politics is being played regarding the totos. They alleged the totos were stopped from plying on the streets without any prior notification. The toto drivers warned of staging a larger protest and blocking the city’s road if their demands are not met soon.
