Siliguri, 01st November: On Wednesday, city auto drivers resorted to protest following allegations of assault of a city auto driver by toto drivers in Champasari, Siliguri.
As per reports, the operation of city autos on various routes of the city was stopped after the incident and a large number of city auto drivers gathered at Siliguri’s Mallaguri. During this, they halted the operations of city autos.
Consequently, city auto operations remained suspended on various routes of the city including Hill Cart Road. The city auto drivers demanded the arrest of the accused drivers and a ban on the operations of unregistered totos in the city.
Upon receiving the news, the cops of Junction Traffic Guard and the police of Pradhan Nagar police station arrived at the spot. Subsequently, the police cautioned the city auto drivers that vehicles with passengers cannot be forcefully stopped.
Meanwhile, the leaders of City Auto Union also arrived at the scene and expressed displeasure over the role of the administration and demanded restriction on the movement of totos. Further, they claimed to resort to a massive protest.
