Torsha River bank erosion engulfs 20 houses in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, 21st July: Many families were left homeless after the erosion of Torsha River embankments swallowed about 20 houses following incessant rainfall in Cooch Behar. People were forced to take shelter over the dam.


Following a heavy downpour, the water level of the Torsha River has increased alarmingly. Consequently, the locals residing along the riverbank in Fasir Ghat and Keshav Ashram of the city’s Ward No. 16 and 18 are facing a lot of difficulties.

According to the information, the terrifying erosion began last night after the water level of the river started to increase.


Upon receiving the news, the Cooch Behar Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer Sanjay Pal arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation. During his visit, he assured the affected families to provide all help possible.
