Rajganj, 26th May: A tragic incident surfaced from the Bandhu Nagar area of Dangapara in Majhiali Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block, following the unexpected demise of a two-and-a-half-year-old Shamim Akhtar due to choking on a litchi seed.
According to family sources, the unfortunate incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon, while Shamim and his sibling were playing beneath a litchi tree in their home. At the time, their parents were present within the household. During this, a litchi fruit fell from the tree when Shamim attempted to eat it.
However, the toddler consumed the fruit along with its seed as the seed got stuck in his windpipe. Subsequently, the family members and neighbors swiftly rushed Shamim to the hospital. Despite their efforts and the prompt medical attention, the child succumbed on the way to the medical facility.
In this regard, Altabul Rahman, the bereaved father of Shamim, stated that he was resting at his home when he was startled by the commotion outside. Upon reaching the scene, he found his son choking on a litchi seed and immediately transported him to the hospital. However, the child could not be saved. The untimely loss of Shamim Akhtar has left the entire community in a state of profound mourning.
