Siliguri, 10th December: During an administrative meeting in Malda, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that an individual must be fluent in Bengali if he/she wants to earn staying in West Bengal.
Members of the Bangabhanga Pratirod Mancha held a press conference in this regard at Siliguri Journalists Club on Friday.
Sanjeev Chakraborty, the convener of Bangabhanga Pratirod Mancha, said “While the original inhabitants of Bengal are deprived of jobs, people from different states are coming and working in West Bengal. The main reason behind this is that people do not feel the need to know the language for obtaining jobs in the state. In West Bengal, 86% of the people feel comfortable speaking Bengali. Despite this, it is not ensured whether the candidates know Bengali or not when it comes to hiring staff in various public and private institutions.”
The organization demanded that one must be fluent in the Bengali language to get jobs in the state.
