New Delhi, 16th December: Trinamool Congress leader and minister Suvendu Adhikari resigned from the membership of West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
Recently, Adhikari has been the subject of intense discussions among TMC as well as other political parties. Furthermore, the posters bearing his photograph with a message “Amra Dadar Anugaami (We are supporters of Dada)” were put up in different parts of the state. Since the posters did not bear any party symbol, it definitely caught the attention of political parties in Bengal.
The curiosity further intensified after Suvendu Adhikari resigned as transport minister from the Mamata Banerjee government on November 27. The move triggered speculation that he may quit the ruling TMC and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, Adhikari has not yet made any official announcement.
His resignation as the MLA today has raised speculations that he is likely to join the BJP during Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state later this week.
“I hereby tender my resignation as a member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Steps may be taken for its immediate acceptance,” he said in a letter to the Speaker.
