Siliguri, 27th January: At the monthly session of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), TMC is said to present a proposal opposing the National Register of Citizens (NRC), National Population Register (NPR) and Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA). This year, the first monthly board meeting of the SMC will be held on Tuesday.
On Monday, the party leaders handed over a written demand to the SMC Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia which was submitted under the leadership of opposition leader Ranjan Sarkar.
In this context, Ranjan Sarkar stated that the state government had already issued a directive to all government offices ordering them not to comply with the central government’s ‘black law’. Sarkar maintained that a proposal will be presented so that all the directives of the state government are followed with the approval of all the councillors of SMC.
