Rajganj, 13th June: In a significant blow to the Trinamool Congress, Ranjita Roy, the Shikarpur Zonal Pradhan, has severed ties with the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections. The announcement was made during a gathering in Malibhita village of Belakoba, under the Rajganj block, where Ranjita Roy joined BJP in the presence of Bapi Goswami, the Jalpaiguri district president of BJP, along with other local leaders and party workers.
Speaking to the media after joining BJP, Ranjita Roy expressed her admiration for the Trinamool party but stated that she was dissatisfied with the leadership. Despite her five-year tenure as the zone president, she claimed to have faced immense pressure, prompting her decision to leave Trinamool and join BJP. Roy also hinted at the possibility of more people following suit and joining BJP in the days to come. Responding to her move, Bapi Goswami, the BJP’s Jalpaiguri district president, criticized Trinamool and stated that only dishonest individuals would remain in the party.
Meanwhile, Narayan Chandra Basak, the Trinamool president of the Shikarpur Zone, downplayed the significance of Ranjita Roy’s departure, stating that the party would not suffer any losses. Basak asserted that Roy had been neglecting her responsibilities for a considerable period and failed to provide satisfactory service to the people. Furthermore, he claimed that no party members were in support of Ranjita Roy’s decision.
