Kharibari, 05th December: A Trinamool Congress (TMC) student leader has been arrested in connection with drug trafficking. Surjit Saha was caught by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) while attempting to smuggle drugs.
According to sources, on Thursday, Surjit Saha was waiting to exchange drugs near the Panitanki flyover in Kharibari when the SSB, acting on a tip-off, reached the spot and apprehended him. A total of 102 grams of morphine was recovered from his possession, with the value estimated at several lakh rupees.
The accused was later handed over to Kharibari police, who formally arrested him based on the SSB’s complaint. Surjit Saha was produced in Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.
Surjit Saha is associated with the TMCP at Naxalbari College. Although he has completed his studies, he has been seen participating in several ruling party programs, as shown on social media. Following his arrest, the incident drew criticism from the BJP.
