Cooch Behar, 17th May: In a tragic incident following the recent polls, TMC leader Animesh Roy of the Lalbazar area in Sitalkuchi block, was shot late Thursday night.
According to reports, Roy was returning home after attending an organizational meeting at Lalbazar Chowpathi when he was attacked. The attackers allegedly fired at Roy. Later, he was rescued and transported to Sitalkuchi Primary Health Center before being transferred to a nursing home in Cooch Behar for further treatment.
Reportedly, Animesh Roy was shot above the knee. The officials from Sitalkuchi police station have launched an investigation into the incident. However, the identities of the alleged attackers remain unknown.
During the medical treatment, Cooch Behar district TMC leader and district council vice-president, Abdul Jalil Ahmed, visited the injured Animesh Roy on Friday. Ahmed suggested the involvement of the BJP party in connection to the incident.
In response, Baren Chandra Barman, the BJP MLA of Sitalkuchi Assembly, denied all allegations, stating that the TMC party has no work but to blame the BJP. He further exclaimed to wait for the police administration to conduct a proper investigation.
