Darjeeling MP Raju Bista assured to support the thousands of GTA Payband and temporary workers who are seeking permanency of their post.
“Nowhere else in West Bengal or rest of India have I known or heard of a government body being run by temporary employees for over 30-years, other than in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills and terai region,” Bista wrote on social media.
The MP alleged West Bengal government of not taking any steps to appoint permanent staff to the body despite the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) accord being signed in 1988.
He further accused TMC Government of refusing to establish boards and commissions including separate Subordinate Selection Board, College Service Commission, and School Service Commission, when Gorkhaland Territorial Agreement was later signed in 2011.
“TMC Govt ensured that GTA remains non-functional right from day one,” Bista asserted. By doing so, the TMC is desperately trying to run the hills using a functionally dead body.
Bista ridiculed the GTA stating that the body does not even acquire the ability to provide permanent employment for workers who have been associated with it since 1988.
The MP further accused the TMC government of taking away all local opportunities and forcing the youths from the GTA region to work as migrant workers.
Lastly, Bista demanded the West Bengal government to ensure the GTA workers are absorbed in local administration with due seniority, full pay-scale and associated facilities at the earliest.
