TMC and BJP workers clash in Siliguri’s Samar Nagar during Bengal bandh

Siliguri, 28th August: Tensions flared in Siliguri’s Samar Nagar on Wednesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers took to the streets to enforce a 12-hour statewide bandh. The situation escalated near the Samar Nagar auto stand in Ward No. 46 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) when BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers clashed.

Reportedly, the Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of forcibly closing shops, prompting their protest. Conversely, the BJP claimed that shopkeepers voluntarily closed their establishments and accused TMC of intimidating them to reopen. The conflicting allegations led to a heated confrontation between workers from both parties.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, a large police contingent from Pradhan Nagar police station arrived at the scene and successfully restored order. The situation was brought under control, preventing further escalation.
