Siliguri, 23rd April: At least three shops and a warehouse were engulfed by a massive fire in the area adjacent to Bani Mandir School of Panchanan Colony in Ward No. 01 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation. A three-wheeler and a generator were also burnt to ashes.
The locals spotted the flames at around 3.30 am. Upon receiving the news, the fire department reached the spot and commenced the rescue operation. Locals alleged that if the fire engines had reached the spot in time, the fire would not have caused so much damage. Meanwhile, Pradhan Nagar police also reached the scene.
Electric godown owner Lalit Yadav said that his godown was completely engulfed by the fire. Goods worth about 10 lakh rupees has been destroyed. The investigation is going on toward the incident.
