Rajganj, 10th July: The Jalpaiguri POCSO Court sentenced three accused to death in the brutal gangrape and murder case of a 16-year-old girl that took place in Rajganj in 2020.
The incident occurred on 10th August 2020, when the minor girl went missing after leaving her house in the evening. Her father lodged a missing complaint the next day, prompting an investigation by Rajganj police.
Following the investigation, the girl’s body was recovered from a safety tank on 15th December 2020. Police revealed that the girl was abducted, gangraped multiple times, and then murdered by the three accused, who dumped her body in the tank.
The arrested accused, Rehman Ali, Jamirul Haque, and Tamirul Haque, were charged and tried under the POCSO Act. After nearly four years of legal proceedings, Judge Rintu Sur of the Jalpaiguri POCSO Court pronounced the death sentence on all three.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Debashis Dutta said the girl was strangled to death after repeated sexual assault near a riverside and her body was disposed of in the safety tank. The court recorded testimonies from 27 witnesses before delivering the verdict. Later, the judge announced the death sentence of 3 accused on Thursday.
