Three rare Salamanders rescued from Kamakhya Capital Express train

Siliguri, 14th September: RPF and NJP CPDS team jointly rescued three endangered Salamanders from the Kamakhya Capital Express train just before smuggling at the Siliguri Junction railway station.


Reportedly, on Tuesday afternoon during a routine check in the Kamakhya Capital Express Train Down (13247), RPF and NJP CPDS team noticed a suspicious bag inside bogie number (D-1). When the team searched the bag, three species of the said reptile were found inside it. After this, the RPF reported the incident to the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Siliguri Regional. As soon as the news was received, the team from the bureau reached the Siliguri Junction RPF office. The RPF handed over the three rescued Salamanders to them.

At the same time, RPF Inspector Surendra Singh said that with the promptness of Constable Dimpkar Mallick of Siliguri Junction GRP and Naresh Kumar, Sujoy Das, S Khan, S Barman, and N Kumar of the NJP CPDS team, the reptiles have been saved before being smuggled. Such endangered species are in great demand in countries like Nepal, Bhutan, and China. Due to this, some people smuggle these creatures. The three species have been handed over to the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.
