Three drug peddlers arrested with brown sugar worth crores in Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th April: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, three drug peddlers were arrested with brown sugar worth crores of rupees in a joint operation conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Matigara police station. A scooty used in the transportation of the drugs was also seized.


The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahim Sheikh, a resident of Malda, and MD Amjad and Amar Raut, both residents of Baghajatin Colony under Pradhan Nagar police station.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off, SOG and Matigara police intercepted a scooty near a bridge at Gate No. 01 of North Bengal University on Thursday afternoon. The three suspects were riding the scooty at the time.


Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 908 grams of brown sugar from the trunk, with its market value running into crores of rupees. During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that Rahim Sheikh had transported the contraband from Malda to Siliguri by bus and was en route to deliver it with his associates on the scooty.

All three accused are scheduled to be produced in Siliguri court on Friday. Further investigation is underway.
