Rajganj, 19th September: The forest personnel of Belakoba launched a campaign and nabbed smugglers along with the Burma teak wood which was being smuggled under the guise of cement sacks. The wood is said to be worth Rs 40 lakhs.
In the early hours of today, under the direction of Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutta, the forest personnel conducted an operation and recovered the said woods in Kartowa area of Rajganj along the Siliguri Jalpaiguri National Highway. Three people have been arrested for the smuggling of the wood. The accused have been identified as Kamal Singh, Kripal Singh and Sanjay Kumar. Sanjay Kumar is a resident of Madhya Pradesh and the remaining two are said to be residents of Rajasthan.
According to forest department sources, during the interrogation of the three accused, it was learned that the wood was being smuggled from Guwahati to Bihar. The three accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court on Tuesday.
