Three arrested as 225 bottles of liquor seized at Nepal border in trolley smuggling attempt

Siliguri, 06th May: In a major breakthrough, the NJP police station in Jalpaiguri recovered a huge quantity of country-made liquor that was being smuggled in trolleys. Acting on a tip-off, the undercover police conducted a search operation in the Tinbatti More area and seized a four-wheeler that was carrying the illicit liquor.


During the search, the police discovered two trolleys inside the vehicle, containing a staggering 225 bottles of liquor. The police immediately arrested three individuals in connection with the incident, including two ex-Army personnel from Nepal. The accused have been identified as Man Bahadur Thapa, Sabdhan Singh Thapa, and Shyam Mandal.

According to police sources, Man Bahadur Thapa and Sabdhan Singh Thapa are both residents of Nepal and are former soldiers. They, along with Shyam Mandal, who was driving the vehicle, were involved in smuggling liquor from Assam to Nepal for a long time.


All three accused have been produced before the Jalpaiguri court, and the police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
