Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, on Friday, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi drawing his attention to the urgent need to start more COVID-19 testing laboratories in the North Bengal region.
Bista, who recently returned to his constituency is currently in home quarantine, in his tweet alleged that thousands of samples collected for testing COVID-19 are lying untested at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital since May 17.
In his letter, the MP urged for the establishment of more COVID-19 testing laboratories in District Hospitals of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri, and also permit private hospitals to conduct COVID-19 tests.
Especially during such a time when more migrant workers, students, and people are coming back to the region every day.
I fear that the delay in sample testing due to the lack of local testing facilities will result in exponential increase in COVD numbers in North Bengal.

“I am hopeful that both the Union and State Government will consider my repeated request for upgradation of health infrastructure in the region,” the MP wrote.
