Siliguri, 20th February: Incidents of theft are on the rise in Siliguri, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents. The latest case was reported from the Narmada Bagan area under Ward No. 46 of Pradhan Nagar Police Station, where thieves targeted a house on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the house belonged to Dinesh Majumdar. His wife had gone to pick up their son from tuition, while Dinesh was at work. The house remained vacant for about 2 to 2.5 hours, during which thieves took advantage of the situation. They broke open the door, entered the house, and escaped with gold and silver jewellery along with cash stored in the cupboard.
Upon returning home, the family found valuables missing and household items scattered. Police were informed and reached the spot to initiate an investigation.
Authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Residents are increasingly worried about safety due to the continuous rise in theft cases.
