Rajganj, 08th February: Burglary at 4 shops in Rajganj Bazaar on the same night created a stir in the entire area. After three gold shops and a grocery store were robbed, questions are being raised on security arrangements as the theft took place near Rajganj police station on Monday night.
Sanjay Sarkar, the owner of the grocery store, said that when he reached the shop at 7 am today, he found the shutters smashed and the hard disk of the CCTV camera was missing. Around Rs 25,000 cash and other shop commodities were missing. Recently, two shops in the market have also been robbed. He demanded the police to provide proper security to the traders.
On the other hand, the owner of the gold shop, Mangal Sonar, said that gold and silver jewellery worth around two lakh rupees have been stolen. Ajay Shah, owner of two other gold shops, and Gautam Roy, an employee, made similar allegations. Traders expressed outrage over the role of police after repeated thefts in the area.
Furthermore, Sanjeev Modak, secretary of the Vyavasayee Samiti, said that on-duty civic volunteers were asleep at night. “A gold shop and a grocery store in the market were robbed a week ago. And now, within a few days, four more shops have been burgled,” he said further adding that the whole matter has been reported to the police on behalf of the Samiti. He warned of staging a movement if no appropriate action is taken by the police soon.
