Siliguri, 08th July: In a shocking theft, thieves broke into a residence in the Ghiyalal Sarani area of Champasari under Ward No. 46 of Siliguri by breaking the window grill. The incident occurred at the residence of Swapan Maitra who had left the home with his wife to visit his in-laws last Saturday.
Reportedly, a group of burglars took advantage of the situation and broke into the empty house by breaking the window grill. Later, they stole gold jewellery worth lakhs from the almirah and also made off with the money deposited in the children’s penny bank.
Upon returning home on Sunday night, Swapan Maitra and his wife discovered the broken window and the scattered items. Subsequently, the robbery was promptly reported to the Pradhan Nagar police station. The police authorities have assured swift action, stating that efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen items.
