Thief responsible for theft in Siliguri Municipal Corporation apprehended

Siliguri, 19th May: The Siliguri Police Station’s undercover team successfully apprehended Tapas Mahanto today in connection with the recent theft at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The accused, a resident of a locality near Fuleswari in Siliguri, was taken into custody following an intensive operation.


According to sources, a few days ago, essential relief materials meant for the underprivileged, dispatched by the state government to SMC, were stolen by unidentified culprits. In response, the Municipal Corporation lodged a written complaint at the Siliguri Police Station on May 15. Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation based on the complaint and gathered valuable information leading them to the Bagrakote bus stand area.

During the operation carried out yesterday, the undercover police officers successfully intercepted Tapas Mahanto, who was found attempting to sell the stolen relief materials. As a result of the arrest, the stolen items were also recovered, ensuring their return to the intended recipients. Today, Tapas Mahanto was produced before the Siliguri Court, where the police presented the evidence against him.
