Jalpaiguri, 15th March: A man accused of theft climbed to the top of a tree in an attempt to escape a possible beating after being caught by locals in the Kerani Para area on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri town.
According to reports, on Sunday morning, the man allegedly broke into a house in Kerani Para area and managed to steal some money. However, he was soon caught by locals. Fearing a physical assault, the youth quickly climbed to the top of a nearby tree.
After receiving information about the incident, police and members of the local Panchayat rushed to the spot. The fire brigade was also called in to assist in bringing the man down safely.
After several hours of effort, the young man was finally brought down from the tree. He was then taken into police custody and taken to the police station.
Police have initiated an investigation into the entire incident.
