Theft in an empty house in Siliguri, valuables including cash stolen

Siliguri, 04th September: Siliguri was rocked by a daring theft in the quiet Chandmuni area under Ward No. 47 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). Miscreants targeted an unoccupied residence, which also housed a tenant, and absconded with a significant sum of cash and jewelry.


According to reports, Kishore Kumar Saha’s wife had gone to her maternal home in Ghoshpukur to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. On Sunday evening, Kishore, a resident of Chandmuni, also journeyed to Ghoshpukur to pick up his wife. Upon his return, he found the main gate’s lock broken and the interior of the house in disarray. Furthermore, it was revealed that Kishore’s tenant’s quarters had also been targeted. An initial assessment indicated that the thieves made off with cash and valuables amounting to several lakhs of rupees from both residences.

Kishore described the situation, noting that everything appeared normal until the afternoon, suggesting that the thieves struck when the house was vacant. He lamented the loss of cash and jewelry from the safe. Geeta Oraon, the tenant, mentioned that she received a phone call on Sunday night, alerting her to the incident. Subsequently, a formal complaint was filed at the Matigara Police Station, prompting police to initiate a rigorous investigation to apprehend the culprits responsible for this audacious theft.
