Theft at vacant house in Siliguri, jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh cash stolen

Siliguri, 19th January: Panic spread after a theft was reported at a house in the Narmada Bagan area of Ward No. 46 under the Pradhan Nagar police station in Siliguri. According to information, the house owner, Asit Dhar, had gone for a picnic with his family in the afternoon, leaving the house locked for around four hours.

When the family returned home around 7 pm, they found the house ransacked. On checking, they discovered that cash and gold and silver jewellery were missing. Asit Dhar stated that the thieves took advantage of the vacant house, broke the rear window to gain entry, and then broke open the cupboard safe. The burglars allegedly fled with Rs 1 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth approximately Rs 5 lakh.

The house owner suspects the involvement of local miscreants in the incident. He alleged that drug addicts often gather near his house in the evenings and that despite repeated objections, the issue has not been addressed.

Upon receiving information, police from Pradhan Nagar police station reached the spot and began an investigation. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded increased police patrolling in the area. Police said the matter is under investigation.
