Siliguri, 17th December: Police have arrested a thief and recovered stolen items in connection with a theft reported at government officials’ quarters in Pintail Village under the Pradhan Nagar police station area.
According to police sources, a government residential quarter belonging to a GTA official in Pintail Village remained vacant between November 25 and November 30. Taking advantage of the empty premises, miscreants allegedly stole copper pipes from an air-conditioning unit installed outside the house and a battery from a generator.
The theft came to light on December 01 when the official returned to the residence and found the items missing. A written complaint was subsequently lodged at the Pradhan Nagar police station.
Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and, after several days, managed to arrest one accused and recover the stolen items. The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and trace other members involved in the theft gang, and further investigation into the case is continuing.
