Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus in Siliguri in bad condition, questions raised over role of Municipal Corporation

Siliguri, 31st December: The condition of Siliguri’s Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus has deteriorated significantly, with garbage strewn across the area, clogged drains, and a strong foul smell creating an unhealthy environment. The situation has led to questions being raised over the role of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

The bus terminus witnesses daily movement of government and private buses to various districts of North Bengal as well as South Bengal. It also serves as an important transit point for tourists travelling to the hills, the Dooars, and other parts of North Bengal. However, passengers and visitors are met with unhygienic conditions upon entering the terminal premises.

Drains and gutters around the bus terminus have been choked with accumulated waste for a long time, resulting in disrupted drainage and waterlogging. Similar conditions are visible not only inside the bus stand but also along the entry and exit routes.

Local residents and regular commuters allege that garbage clearance is irregular and that drain cleaning has been neglected. The condition of this key bus terminus, often referred to as the gateway to North Bengal, continues to raise concerns regarding maintenance and accountability.
