Naxalbari, 07th November: Tension erupted in Naxalbari after a private hospital was accused of referring a patient to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) without the family’s consent. The incident led to a mob attack on a hospital employee, leaving one person injured. Police were deployed at the scene to control the situation.
According to reports, a 60-year-old patient was admitted to the private hospital in Naxalbari for tumor surgery. The family claimed that the patient was stable post-surgery but was referred to NBMCH without their knowledge or approval. This caused a major outburst from the patient’s family, resulting in a mob attack on a hospital staff member.
Naxalbari police arrived quickly to control the situation, and Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh also visited the location to assess the matter. Police managed to restore calm at the scene.
The private hospital, however, defended its actions, stating that the patient was referred according to medical guidelines and regulations. Hospital authorities also pointed out that the patient had cancer, a critical factor in the decision to transfer.
