Naxalbari, 29th September: A tense atmosphere prevailed after the gherao and submission of 15-point memorandum by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) at the Naxalbari Panchayat Office. During this, the members of CPIM and Trinamool Congress engaged in a heated argument.
According to reports, on Friday, an argument broke out between the Trinamool Panchayat members and the CPI (M) over calling a woman a ‘CPI (M) worker’. Following this, both the Trinamool Panchayat members and the CPIM Area Committee Secretary engaged in a scuffle. Upon receiving the news, Naxalbari police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Speaking in this regard, the Secretary of CPI (M)’s Naxalbari Area Committee alleged that the Trinamool Panchayat member had threatened the women. On the other hand, Naxalbari Gram Panchayat Pradhan stated that it was a pre-determined memorandum of CPIM. He added that the situation was worsened by the presence of unknown elements. Furthermore, he stated that the matter would be addressed amicably.
