Siliguri, 02nd February: A two-day strike was called by the West Bengal State Electricity Contract-Based and Contract Workers Unity Forum. The temporary workers of the electricity department staged a sit-in protest in front of the power house premises on Tuesday morning.
Reportedly, the temporary employees of the power department had submitted a memorandum demanding a salary increase. However, their demands have not been met yet. Following which, they staged a two-day strike.
Anamika Saha, a member of the committee, said that a two-day strike has been called presenting a seven-point demand. They demanded that a minimum of 21 thousand 6 hundred rupees must be paid to the workers, job permanency should be provided till 60 years and workers should not be laid off.
