Temple relocation and construction sparks dispute in Siliguri

Siliguri, 10th January: Tensions flared on Friday after a hotel management in Siliguri was accused of obstructing the construction of a temple. The situation was brought under control following the intervention of Pradhan Nagar Police Station.

Reportedly, several roads in Siliguri are being cleared by the NHAI for the construction of an elevated road. As part of this process, temples and houses along the route are being removed. Among them, a Hanuman Temple near the Regulated Market was relocated by the NHAI, and land was allotted to the temple committee for reconstruction behind the original site.

On Friday, as the Hanuman Temple Committee began construction at the new site, a hotel management allegedly objected to the work and initiated a protest, escalating the dispute.

The situation briefly turned tense but was later calmed down after the police intervened to mediate the issue.
