Teesta Barrage bridge in Gajoldoba to remain closed for 140 days for renovation

Gajoldoba, 23rd April: The Teesta Barrage bridge in Gajoldoba will remain closed for 140 days starting April 27, as major renovation work is set to begin. During this period, vehicular traffic on the barrage will be completely restricted, although pedestrians will still be allowed to use the footpath.

The decision was finalized during a meeting between Teesta Barrage officials and the Jalpaiguri district administration on Tuesday. Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Krishna Roy Barman stated that the condition of the barrage is currently very poor and poses a risk of both minor and major accidents.

To prevent any untoward incidents, the renovation has been deemed necessary. Instructions regarding the closure have already been sent to BDOs and local panchayats to ensure wide public awareness.
