Siliguri, 12th June: Jalpaiguri MP Dr Jayanta Roy and several other BJP workers were attacked at Ambari Bhandarigachh, on Friday. Roy and two other BJP workers were rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
It is to recall after the assembly election concluded in the state, a series of violence erupted across Bengal where the BJP leader and workers were attacked. To save their lives, many were even forced to leave their homes and flee. MP Jayanta Roy alleged that the TMC activists attacked him and the other when he was helping the displaced BJP workers return home.
Condemning the incident, the party’s four MLAs lodged a written complaint at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate today, demanding immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident. The team comprised of Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh, Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandmay Barman, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee and Kurseong MLA B. P. Bajgain along with other party members.
Addressing the media, MLA Shankar Ghosh alleged that the local leaders of the Trinamool Congress had planned to help the BJP workers return home by offering them to join the TMC. However, with the presence of the Jalpaiguri MP who went to bring back the BJP workers himself, the plan failed and eventually led to the attack.
