Teak wood worth crores recovered before smuggling near Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway, two arrested 

Siliguri, 27th January: The Forest Department has recovered teak wood worth crores of rupees before smuggling. Two people have also been arrested in the said incident. The accused have been identified as Sajin and Shankara Ganga Raju, residents of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh respectively. 


 

 


In the early hours today, on the basis of a tip-off, forest personnel led by Belakoba range ranger Sanjay Dutta carried out an operation in the Panikauri area of the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway and intercepted a 14-wheeler container and a 14-wheeler lorry.

 

During the search, teak wood worth about Rs 1 crore was recovered from both vehicles. It has been told that the wood was being smuggled from Guwahati to Kolkata. The accused will be produced in Jalpaiguri court on Saturday.
