Siliguri, 04th December: The hanging body of a teacher inside a school in Siliguri has caused widespread shock and sparked controversy. The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Saurabh Kumar Roy, was a resident of the Badurbagan area under Ashighar Outpost.
Reportedly, Saurabh Kumar, a teacher at Farabari Special Cadre Primary School in Farabari Nepali Basti, went to school on Tuesday morning as usual but did not return home. Concerned family members, after failing to locate him, contacted the school authorities, who claimed there was no one present in the school.
The family then approached Ashighar Outpost to file a missing person’s report and were redirected to Ambari Outpost. Meanwhile, police tracked the teacher’s mobile phone, which indicated a location near the Mechi River in Panitanki, close to the Nepal border. Shortly afterward, the school authorities informed the family that one of the rooms in the school was locked.
They immediately went to the school, where a crowd of locals had gathered. Upon reaching the spot, the locals initially prevented the family from entering. Later, the teacher’s body was found hanging inside a locked room in the school. The family alleged that the teacher had been murdered and filed a complaint against the school authorities and the locals.
Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, restored order, and sent the body to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy.
School authorities have denied the allegations of foul play, calling them baseless. The police have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death.
