Siliguri, 23rd August: The New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police have taken into custody a teacher, Krishnakant Roy, on charges of engaging in a physical relationship with a girl under the pretence of marriage. Roy, who teaches at a high school in Rajganj, allegedly sustained a relationship with the girl for three years with the promise of marriage. However, when discussions about marriage emerged, he reportedly demanded a hefty sum of Rs 15 lakh from the girl’s family. Upon refusal, he proceeded to register a marriage with another individual through legal means.
The situation escalated when the girl, feeling deceived, reported Roy’s actions to the authorities, accusing him of rape. The NJP police station received the complaint and acted swiftly by apprehending the accused teacher. Today, the arrested teacher was presented before the Jalpaiguri court for legal proceedings. While facing these grave allegations, Roy adamantly denied the charges brought against him.
