Alipurduar, 24th September: Tea workers staged a protest over bonus demands at tea gardens in the Dooars region. On Tuesday, workers at the Mechpara tea garden in the Kalchini block staged a demonstration, calling for a gate meeting.
Reportedly, the workers expressed their dissatisfaction with the recent decision regarding bonuses. The Mechpara tea garden is recognized as one of the best in the Dooars. However, the management announced a bonus of only 16% during the meeting. Later, this was revised to 15%, prompting workers to join the ongoing protests.
Workers have asserted that they will continue their movement until their demand for a 16% bonus is met. They further cautioned about a continued agitation in demand for their bonus.
