Preparations underway for Chhath Puja at Siliguri’s Maa Santoshi Ghat, continuing a 53-year-old tradition

Siliguri, 25th October: Preparations are underway for Chhath Puja at No. 1 Maa Santoshi Ghat on Burdwan Road in Santoshi Nagar, Siliguri, as the Sri Sri Chhath Puja Seva Samiti gears up for a grand celebration while prioritising the safety of devotees, cleanliness and lighting arrangements.

During a general meeting, a new 31-member executive committee was formed to oversee the arrangements. Pappu Singh has been appointed President, Santosh Mandal Secretary, Mithilesh Rai Treasurer and Chhotu Pandit Coordinator. A separate 21-member advisory committee has also been constituted to guide the preparations.

Committee President Pappu Singh stated that this year marks the 53rd anniversary of the Chhath Puja tradition at No. 1 Maa Santoshi Ghat, highlighting the long-standing cultural and religious significance of the celebration.

Secretary Santosh Mandal said that special attention is being given to the cleaning and beautification of the ghat, adequate lighting and the safety of devotees. The committee is also coordinating with the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) to ensure proper arrangements for the festival.

According to a press release issued by the committee, the festival will begin with ‘Nahay-Khay’ on November 13, followed by ‘Kharna Puja’ on November 14. ‘Sandhya Arghya’ will be observed on November 15, while the celebrations will conclude with ‘Usha Arghya’ on November 16.

Committee members are currently working to complete the necessary arrangements to ensure a safe and successful Chhath Puja celebration at Maa Santoshi Ghat.
