Jalpaiguri, 19th April: Panic gripped the Bhandiguri Tea Estate in Jalpaiguri district after a tea garden worker was severely injured in a leopard attack on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as 40-year-old Jhutung Oraon, a resident of Karla Line, was plucking tea leaves in Block No. 60 of the estate when a leopard suddenly emerged from nearby bushes and pounced on him.
Hearing his screams, fellow workers rushed to the spot, prompting the leopard to flee. Oraon was immediately taken to Jalpaiguri Medical College and later shifted to the Super Specialty Hospital for advanced treatment.
The incident caused a commotion in the area, and forest department personnel have since begun patrolling the tea garden to monitor the situation.
