SUCI(C) stages protest outside Siliguri SDO office alleging deletion of valid voters’ names in SIR process

Siliguri, 02nd March: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) staged a protest outside the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Officer’s office on Monday alleging that valid voters’ names have been deleted during the SIR process. Tension prevailed for some time following a scuffle and heated exchange between protesters and police.

According to sources, SUCI(C) workers and supporters took out a rally and reached the SDO office to submit a memorandum. Police stopped them in front of the main gate. The protesters then attempted to remove the barricade and enter the premises, leading to a verbal altercation with police personnel.

As the situation escalated, the main gate of the office was closed and the protesters continued raising slogans outside.

Darjeeling district SUCI(C) secretary Gautam Bhattacharya said they had gone to submit a memorandum alleging harassment of common people across the state in connection with the SIR process. He stated that although they intended to submit the deputation peacefully, the administration created unnecessary obstacles.

The situation remained tense for some time before returning to normal.
