Siliguri, 03rd January: Students of Shaktigarh Girls’ School in Siliguri staged a protest against the collection of extra admission fees, causing a temporary disruption of traffic in the area. The demonstration began Saturday morning outside the school premises, with students blocking the road to voice their grievances.
According to complaints, the government-mandated admission fee is ₹240, but the school authorities are reportedly charging ₹400 per student without providing any clear justification for the additional amount. The protesting students demanded that the school adhere to the government-prescribed fee structure and refund the excess amount collected.
When approached for comments, the school’s headmistress declined to respond on the matter. However, a teacher at the school stated that the extra fees were being collected following instructions from the headmistress, despite the official fee being ₹240.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving news of the protest and managed to bring the situation under control. Authorities have assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
