Rajganj, 08th June: In a tragic incident, a girl was severely injured after being hit by a dumper truck. This incident surfaced on Thursday morning from the Ambari-Cheulibari road of Rajganj. The injured has been identified as Riya Roy, a student of seventh standard.
According to local sources, on Thursday morning, Riya Roy was on her way home from tuition via the said road during which the incident happened. After the incident, the injured girl was rescued and taken to a private hospital in Siliguri. However, the accused driver fled from the scene.
Following the incident, the locals protested by blocking and burnt tyres on the said road. In addition, all dumper trucks plying on the road were stopped. According to the residents, hundreds of sand and stone laden dumper trucks ply via the road daily resulting in frequent accidents for which they demanded that movement of dumper trucks should be stopped on the said road.
Meanwhile, the police of Ambari Outpost, upon receiving the news, reached the spot and accessed the prevailing situation, but the locals were firm on their demands. However, later, the situation was brought under control by the police.
