Strict vigil ahead of polls as police conduct naka checking in Siliguri

Siliguri, 18th March: In line with the Election Commission’s directives to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling, security has been tightened across the state. As part of this, naka checking drives are being carried out in various parts of Siliguri and nearby areas.


Heightened vigilance was observed at Panitanki More, one of the key transit points in Siliguri, where vehicles including four-wheelers were stopped and thoroughly checked. Police examined vehicle documents and also inspected for any illegal cash, liquor, arms or other suspicious items.

The operation was led by Panitanki Outpost OC Nirmal Das, along with members of the Static Surveillance Team (SST).


According to administrative sources, the strict measures have been put in place to prevent any illegal transactions or undue influence ahead of the elections. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate during the checking process.

Such naka checking drives are expected to continue in the coming days.
