Siliguri, 16th August: Residents of Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass have voiced strong resentment over the irregular functioning of streetlights. Locals alleged that the lights remain switched on throughout the day but fail to function at night, plunging the entire stretch into darkness.
According to reports, such a scenario has been witnessed regularly over the past few days near Baneswar More on the Eastern Bypass. Locals added that the bypass already lacks adequate streetlights, and the ones installed are now burning electricity during the day instead of lighting up the road at night.
They further stated that not just Baneswar More, but other parts of the bypass also face the same issue from time to time.
Residents complained that while streetlights glow during the day, the road becomes pitch dark at night, increasing the risk of accidents, thefts, and snatching. Locals said the situation has caused major inconvenience to commuters and residents alike.
