Stray dog was brutally beaten to death in Siliguri: Three arrested for animal cruelty

Siliguri, 03rd April: After the heartwrenching news of animal cruelty surfaced in Siliguri on Saturday, animal activists and citizens strongly condemned the incident and staged protests. Taking prompt action in this matter, cops of Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested three people for brutally beating a dog to death in broad daylight. The accused have been identified as Ganesh Paul (65), Manoj Roy (30) and Ripon Paul (30). Out of the three, 65-year-old Ganesh Paul is said to be the main accused. 


It is to be noted, on Saturday, a stray dog was brutally beaten to death in Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 11 Khudiram Pally. After this incident, several organizations and animal lovers staged a silent protest at Venus More (Hashmi Chowk) on Sunday, condemning the incident. As per police sources, a written complaint was lodged on Saturday in this regard, after which the police first detained Manoj Roy and Ripon Paul, two employees of the pharmacy where the dog was beaten. Following this, the name of Ganesh Paul surfaced during interrogation. 

The police then nabbed Ganesh Paul from the Hatiadanga area on Sunday night. And after going through the CCTV footage, the police arrested the three men and registered a case against them under the Animal Act. The three accused were presented in court today and the police demanded remand. The police are probing the entire matter.
