Storm wreaks havoc in Naxalbari; multiple houses damaged, over 25 trees uprooted

Naxalbari, 14th July: A severe storm late Sunday night caused extensive damage in Naxalbari’s Shantinagar area, leaving several houses damaged and more than 25 trees uprooted.

According to reports, strong winds during the storm caused large trees to fall, damaging multiple houses. In one incident, a woman named Archana Barman was trapped under a fallen tree. She was later rescued and taken to Naxalbari Hospital, from where she was referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for further treatment.

The uprooted trees also snapped electric wires, leading to a complete power outage in the area.

Local residents immediately informed the Naxalbari Gram Panchayat and the BDO about the situation. Panchayat member Sadhan Chakraborty stated that tarpaulin sheets will be provided to the affected families as an initial relief measure.
